The victory ensured they, maintained their perfect record in the revamped 36-team group stage tournament.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a fine finish, marking his 21st goal in 30 appearances this season.

Lille’s Aissa Mandi was sent off just before the hour mark for a second bookable offense, but the French side quickly equalized through Jonathan David three minutes later.

Harvey Elliott restored Liverpool’s lead in the 63rd minute with a deflected effort, sealing the win for the Reds.

The result also made Liverpool the first-ever winners of the new group-stage format.

Liverpool will wrap up their group-stage campaign next Wednesday with an away fixture against PSV Eindhoven.
