Delta State Government has confirmed a cholera outbreak in Ikpide-Irri community, Isoko South Local Government Area, but fortunately, no fatalities have been recorded.

According to Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, the State Commissioner for Health, the situation is being closely monitored and is under control.

The Commissioner, on Friday, clarified that the deaths of two individuals in Ikpide-Irri were unrelated to the cholera outbreak, as test results were still pending.

To combat the spread of the disease, the government noted it has embarked on advocacy efforts, emphasizing the importance of personal hygiene and access to clean drinking water.

Onojaeme stated, “We gave them tablets that will help them purify their water. We also gave them health education, and the ones that were sick were treated. I can tell you categorically that the outbreak is fully under control.”

While the government’s swift response and efforts to educate the public have helped contain the outbreak, the residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the disease.
