Jonathon Cooper playing for the Denver Broncos during an NFL game.

Denver Broncos outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper has been placed on the NFL’s Commissioner’s Exempt List.

The Broncos confirmed the move on Sunday as the team finalized its 53-man roster for the 2026 NFL season.

Cooper will not be allowed to practice or play while he remains on the exempt list.

The move comes as the 28-year-old faces domestic violence-related legal proceedings. ESPN reports that Cooper is scheduled to appear in Douglas County, Colorado, court for an arraignment.

Cooper has been an important part of Denver’s defense. He recorded 8 sacks during the 2025 season and has 23.5 sacks in his Broncos career.

His absence leaves Denver with fewer options at outside linebacker as the team prepares for the new NFL season.
