Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Elma Aveiro, has criticised Portugal following the captain’s departure from the national team camp.

Ronaldo left Portugal’s camp after announcing that he had decided to leave following the national team manager’s press conference and a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença.

Elma then shared a message on Instagram defending her brother and questioning how he had been treated.

She wrote that CR7 deserved more respect, while also criticising the national team’s structure and Portuguese journalism for what she described as speculation.

Her message went further, saying that Portuguese people “don’t deserve to have the best at anything” and accusing them of envy and ignorance.

She concluded by thanking Ronaldo and saying he deserved more.

Ronaldo’s departure came amid reports of tension after new Portugal manager Jorge Jesus left him on the bench during the team’s 2–1 Nations League victory over Norway.

Jesus has denied that there was any incident between them, saying his decision not to bring Ronaldo onto the pitch was simply a tactical choice.

The situation has now sparked further debate over Ronaldo’s relationship with the Portugal national team.
