FIFA has accused UEFA of launching a “smear campaign” against the world football governing body and its president, Gianni Infantino.

The dispute follows UEFA’s efforts to obtain documents and testimony linked to FIFA’s controversial plan to bring private investors into the commercial rights of major tournaments, including the World Cup.

The proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) was abandoned after facing strong opposition from UEFA and other football stakeholders.

UEFA has now sought evidence through courts in the United States as it considers possible legal action in Switzerland over the plan.

FIFA has challenged the requests, arguing that UEFA has no legal basis to demand its internal documents. It also warned that releasing the documents could expose sensitive and proprietary information.
