The Federal Government has proposed a new examination timetable that targets the release of WAEC and NECO results by August 2027. The plan is designed to help students begin tertiary institution admission processes in September without unnecessary delays.
The proposal is part of the government’s efforts to harmonise national examination schedules, prevent timetable clashes, and improve the transition from secondary school to higher education.
According to the Federal Ministry of Education, the proposed timetable was discussed at a meeting between the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and representatives of examination bodies in Abuja.
Proposed 2027 WAEC and NECO Examination Dates
Under the proposed schedule, several major examinations will take place between March and July 2027, with results expected before the September admission period.
The proposed examination timetable includes:
- JAMB UTME: March 15–25, 2027, with results expected in March.
- NECO SSCE: April 1–May 14, 2027.
- WAEC WASSCE: May 11–June 18, 2027.
- NABTEB examinations: June 1–July 5, 2027.
- NBAIS examinations: June 10–July 9, 2027.
Results for WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS are targeted for release in August 2027.
Why the Federal Government Wants Earlier Results
The government said the proposed timetable aims to reduce delays that could prevent students from completing admission requirements on time.
By aligning examination schedules and results processing, the authorities hope to give candidates more certainty as they prepare to enter universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
The initiative also seeks to improve coordination among examination bodies and strengthen accountability in the administration of national examinations.
Proposed Timetable Still Requires Coordination
The Federal Ministry of Education said discussions with examination bodies would continue to encourage compliance with the proposed schedule.
Meeting the August 2027 target will require effective coordination of examination dates, marking and results processing.
Students and parents should therefore follow official announcements from WAEC, NECO and the Federal Ministry of Education for confirmation of the final timetable.
Conclusion
The proposed August 2027 deadline could help students plan their admission processes more effectively and reduce disruptions caused by late examination results.
